about Sail & Steam
the modelist -
I have always been a sailor. Boats
form an inseparable part of my life, and over the years,
I have sailed in and seen, many boats. Each one had
for me an essence, a personality and I don’t mean
a soul, as that is more normally reserved for human
beings and which was unique and indefinable. Although
photographs, shared experiences and tales swapped with
friends are wonderful ways to share and transmit this
feeling about a boat, I also believe that a unique way
to render this feeling is through a model which reflects
the personality and details of each boat, enabling us
to appreciate it almost as fully as if we had the real
thing before our eyes. It is not always easy to find
people who think the same way, but when they do, they
can appreciate and feel the personality of the boat
in the same way that I do. It is to people like these
that this page is dedicated to.

A few years ago I began to do ship modelling
as an amateur, building a few kits and modified designs.
Over time, my skills developed so that the quality of
the construction improved significantly and the level
of detail that I could render grew to a high standard.
Not only am I a proficient sailor, having sailed in
both modern and classic boats, but I have inevitably
got to know the inner workings of every part, the ropes,
blocks, their shape, colour and size, so that I can
replicate them on each model, true to scale as in reality,
thus rendering a faithful image of the real thing.
